2. River Valley Connections

RVC01 Trent Valley Way

Creating a series of walks and trails along the River Trent.

Project Summary

The Trent Valley Way is a long distance walking route along the River Trent from source to estuary. Our project is developing and promoting the Trent Valley Way within the Transforming the Trent Valley landscape. The walking route will act as a spine along the river valley, connecting heritage, places and communities.

This walk will link up with other access routes including footpaths, cycle ways and the National Forest Way, as well as some of our heritage projects. Along its length are a series of spurs and circular walking routes connecting to key cultural, industrial and natural heritage sites.

The Trent Valley Way follows Rights of Way. The long term maintenance will be the responsibility for the landowner under the guidance of the Rights of Way departments at Staffordshire and Derbyshire County Councils.

Trent Rivers Trust remains committed to promoting the entire Trent Valley Way including the area within the Transforming the Trent Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme area and upstream and downstream of it. Funding will be sought to continue to look for opportunities to further develop and promote it.

Trent Valley Way Route Maps

Once completed, the Trent Valley Way will form a popular tourist attraction and a key part of the Trent Valley landscape. A map of the whole of the Trent Valley Way within the Transforming the Trent Valley project area is available here.

Below are links to detailed maps showing the proposed route for the Trent Valley Way within the Transforming the Trent Valley project area. As well as the main Trent Valley Way, there are also a series of circular and linear routes or spurs connected to the main path taking in other points of interest and visitor attractions close to the River Trent. These routes are still draft, and are subject to change as the project develops.

Maps for the remainder of the Trent Valley Way outside of the Transforming the Trent Valley project area in Staffordshire and downstream into Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire are available on the Trent Rivers Trust website.
