3. Transforming the Landscape (TL)

TL02 Rolleston Brook Hollows

Restoring the culturally important lakes at the heart of Rolleston.

Project Summary

Brook Hollows is a former fishing lake at the heart of the Rolleston community. It requires restoration work including silt removal from the lake bed channel, and we are developing an engineering solution to reduce significantly any future silting taking place. The site is a beautiful space for visitors to sit and enjoy the area, so the project includes an ongoing programme of woodland maintenance to ensure the best possible environment for people and wildlife.

The site has a great community spirit and will be a focus for celebrating the heritage and nature of this part of the Dove Valley. Information boards will tell the story of the site and its long history.

East Staffordshire Borough Council will be the responsible authority for on-going maintenance of the site. There is a strong drive from local groups to continue use of the site and utilise the resource as an educational tool. The local community is proactive and will continue in voluntary activities. It is intended that the majority of the partners will continue to contribute to the activities and maintenance of the site.
