Resources for anyone interested in the identification and recording of wildlife in the Trent Valley

The following resources and links have been created by our dedicated volunteers and groups that we have worked with on the ‘Big Washlands Watch’ project (Transforming the Trent Valley are not responsible for content on external links)

iRecord:  A free website for managing and sharing your wildlife records. Anyone can make an account and begin uploading wildlife records, if you want to contribute to the Transforming the Trent Valley activity, search for us in the ‘Activity’ tab.

Trent Talks: Catch up on our previous Trent Talks on our Youtube channel, talks range from species ID, beaver reintroduction talks, art in public spaces, sustainability and much more.

Conservation Captured: This blog and website is created by Braden Wilkinson, a Wildlife Recording Volunteer with Transforming the Trent Valley.

Trent Valley Wildlife and Survey Guide: This booklet and fold out guide have been created for us by Field Studies Council Publications, and showcase 33 species that can be found in the Trent Valley. It highlights how to record species using iRecord, and the booklet contains childrens nature hunts as well as existing NBN Atlas maps showing the distribution of each species. Download your copies:

How to use the iRecord app and Google Lens: These ‘how to’ guides have been created by Rob Peate, one of our Wildlife Recording Volunteers, and part of the ‘Friends of Brook Hollows‘.

Introduction to Moths: An accompaniment to Dave Emley’s Trent Talk on Moths, which can be found on our Youtube channel. This document has a wealth of useful information and further reading. Dave Emley is Staffordshire’s County Moth Recorder.

Wildlife Recording Volunteers

We have an active ‘Wildlife Recording Volunteer’ group as part of Transforming the Trent Valley, who are helping us to identify and record the wildlife sharing the Trent Valley with us. We meet regularly for walks in the landscape, share knowledge and ideas among the group, and have recently been shortlisted for Support Staffordshire’s East Staffordshire STAR Awards as ‘New Volunteer Group of the Year’.
