Empowering local communities to make positive change.

Project Summary

We are working with communities across the Trent Valley landscape and encouraging people to get involved with our projects through volunteering and participation in our numerous events and activities.

We are also supporting great community initiatives that meet our objectives through a Community Grants scheme.

Our Community Engagement Officer is working directly with volunteers, community representatives, a number of diverse community groups, and parish and town councils across the Transforming the Trent Valley area to strengthen relationships across and within the Trent Valley, ensuring a network of community groups and residents who have an interest in protecting and enhancing this unique and wonderful landscape.

Community Grants

We are encouraging community groups to plan and deliver projects within the scheme area which will benefit the natural, cultural and built heritage of the area.

These projects might include: building a wildlife area in a school garden, creating an arts trail along the River Trent, restoring part of a historic building or putting on an event to enable children to explore the great outdoors.

The deadline for the next round of applications is 29th June 2022.

Community Engagement

We currently engage with many community groups in the Trent Valley area to build our relationships and networks with groups interested in the natural, cultural and built heritage of the area.

These include:

Regularly attending the Support Staffordshire Locality Forums

Attending the Zero Carbon Rugeley Community Advisory Group

Attending Trent and Dove Housing Horninglow and Eton forum and Kingfisher Project forum

Involvement in the Sustainable Uttoxeter project

Giving talks and presentations about the Transforming the Trent Valley scheme to local groups

Attending community events, fairs and festivals

Project Legacy

The aim of the community engagement project is to involve people from all communities living in the Trent Valley so that they have gained a better understanding of the cultural and natural heritage by the end of the programme that they can carry into the future for the benefit of their local area.

Those who volunteer for projects during the programme will continue to make a difference, either by continuing to volunteer for one of the partner organisations, for a local community group, or by continuing on an individual basis e.g. as a citizen scientist, using the knowledge they gained through their engagement with the Transforming the Trent Valley scheme.

Community groups which receive a Transforming the Trent Valley Landscape Partnership community grant will get support to continue to develop activities and projects that further the aims of the Transforming the Trent Valley Landscape Partnership beyond the life of the scheme.

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we can give out grants of up to £2000 to constituted community groups who want to run a project in the Transforming the Trent Valley area. View a map of the scheme area.
